December is nearly over, which means it’s time to ring in a brand new year. While you probably have your own personal New Year’s resolutions, why not create some resolutions to improve your home? Here, our home improvement repair experts share some great ideas for your home this coming year:
We know there are some things in your home that you really don’t need, but have kept around. Do yourself a favor and get rid of the things you haven’t used recently and probably won’t use in the future. You’ll free up space for new items.
Sagging gutters can be trouble – not only for your gutters, but also for your roof, foundation, and even your interiors. When gutters don’t carry water away from your home properly, it can mean big problems in the future.
There are many ways you can reduce your carbon footprint this coming year: wash your clothes in cold water, install a low-flow shower head or toilet, swap out your lightbulbs, set your thermostat to a lower temperature, and more.
You spend most of your time indoors, which means your indoor air should be purified and easy to breathe. If you don’t already have a purifier, investing in one can reduce asthma and allergy symptoms and even headaches and sore throats.
Another way you can go green this coming year is by using less water (and by using more cold water than hot water). Try taking shorter showers, running your dishwasher only when there’s a full load, and turning off the faucet when you don’t really need water.
This year, embrace your inner DIY-er and complete a project on your own. Whether it’s building a table, fixing a leak, installing a sink, or something else, gathering up your own tools and getting to work can be a rewarding experience – especially if you share it with your family.
When’s the last time you painted a room? Chances are there’s at least one that’s looking a little outdated, so why not choose a fresh new color and transform your living room, bedroom, bathroom, or another room in your home?
Roofing systems only last so long, and making sure yours is in good shape is important. Check your roof for damaged shingles, missing shingles, or missing shingle granules. These could be signs of a needed repair or even a needed replacement.
Whether it’s your kitchen cabinets or your garage shelves, do yourself (and your family members) a favor and reorganize. Go through all of your goods and get rid of the things you don’t use. Then, use a helpful system to organize the rest and make everything easy to find.
Do you have a bathtub that you no longer use? Don’t let it take up space any longer – make it a resolution to get rid of it or convert it into a shower that you’ll use instead. Talk to our home improvement repair experts about our bath solutions.
It never hurts to have a home that’s appealing to visitors and passers-by, so why not add a little curb appeal this year? Plant colorful flowers, invest in some new doorway lights, or even change the color of your exterior.
