Freestanding bathtubs are a great way to add an artistic element to your bathroom. If you’re going to install your own, there are just a few tools you’ll need. Here, our bath installation experts walk you through how to successfully install your bathtub:
- Start by figuring out where in your bathroom you’d like your bathtub.
- Next, clear the area and use your level to make sure your floor is properly balanced (this is especially important if you’ve had your floors remodeled).
- After that, place the bathtub in the exact spot you’d like to install it and lay a blanket down next to it.
- Tip the bathtub on its side and onto the blanket to protect both the floor and the bathtub.
- Then, locate the drain hole area and clean it to remove and dirt or debris.
- Place a dot of clear silicone around the drain body and place it through the drain hole.
- Place some plumber’s putty on the washer and then slide it over the bottom of the drain body.
- Slide the washer over the bottom of the drain body and the nut onto the drain body.
- Tighten the washer and nut to form a tight seal.
- After that, install the drain tail piece according to the manufacturer’s directions.
- Now that your bathtub is prepared, you’ll want to clean the floor thoroughly before you install it.
- Once your floor is cleaned and dry, run a large bead of caulk around the bottom base of your bathtub and stand it upright.
- Run another large bead of caulk around the bathtub to fully secure it to the floor. Once the caulk is dry, you can wipe away any excess with a damp cloth.
