Many homeowners choose seamless gutters because they like the clean look they provide. If you’re going to install your own seamless gutters, make sure you ask a couple friends or neighbors to help you do so, as seamless gutters come in long sections. Here, our gutter installation professionals tell you how to do it:
- Place your ladder against your roof and climb up to where your gutters will be installed.
- Next, inspect your fascia to make sure it’s not damaged and can support a new gutter system.
- If you’re replacing old gutters, use your measuring tape to measure the length of your old gutters so you know how long your new gutters should be.
- If, however, you’re installing new gutters, use your measuring tape to measure the length of each side of your home.
- As you measure, mark 1/4″ below your measuring tape at every 10 feet. (This is to ensure the slope of your gutters is at least 1/2″ every 10 feet.)
- Next, use a hacksaw to cut your gutters to the appropriate lengths.
- After that, determine where you’ll put your downspouts.
- On your home, measure where you want your downspouts to be, then make the same measurement on your gutters.
- Center your downspout outlet and trace it onto your gutter.
- Cut 1/16″ outside of your traced line, then pre-drill 1/8″ holes in your outlet.
- Next, lay a bead of gutter sealant around the opening, then attach your outlet and rivet it to your gutter.
- Install end caps at the ends of the gutter segments that won’t have a downspout.
- Begin installing your gutters by lining them up with your slope measurement and attaching them with a hex screw every two feet.
- Afterwards, slide your new or existing gutter flashing underneath your shingles and nail it down.
- Attach gutter hangers to help keep your gutters in place, then attach your downspouts.
