Home Depot Stone Veneer Siding
The beauty of stone has been recognized by homeowners all over the world and has been used as a home siding for centuries. Stone gives homes a rich, beautiful characteristic that can’t be matched by other siding types like vinyl or polymer. It’s also low-maintenance, so you won’t have to worry about it fading in the sun or having to re-paint or re-stain it.
If you’ve also recognized the beauty of stone and love the look of it for your home, you’ve probably also recognized that it’s one of the more costly siding options. Luckily, at P.J. Fitzpatrick, we have a siding option called “stone veneer” that can give you the look of true stone, but without the cost.
Natural Stone Siding vs. Stone Veneer Siding
Stone veneer siding differs from natural stone siding in a few different ways:
Natural stone siding is made using real stones that are gathered from local quarries. Some of the most popular types include limestone, marble, granite, slate, and travertine. Each of these natural stones are durable and can add structural benefits to a home. When it comes to environmental friendliness, however, stone veneer is a better choice.
Stone veneer siding is made from high-quality cement and iron-oxide pigments to give them the color of natural stones. The cement is then poured into stone-shaped molds. Once these molded stones harden, they can be set into mortar in the same way that natural stones are. Stone veneer is much lighter than natural stone, which means it’s easier to install and less costly (up to half the price).
Stone Veneer Benefits
In addition to being easier to install, more lightweight, and more affordable than natural stone, stone veneer can be fit into nearly any home building plan and doesn’t require foundations or footings for support. In addition, it holds up well to natural elements and if any stone undergoes damage, it’s much easier to replace than natural stone.
