HARDIETRIM® BOARDS INSTALLATION
THE DETAIL THAT MAKES SIDING LOOK FINISHED
Trim is the part of a siding job nobody notices when it’s done well and everybody notices when it isn’t. It frames every window and door, wraps every corner, and runs along your rooflines—which means it’s doing a huge amount of visual work on your home even though it covers a fraction of the surface. It’s also, on most houses, the first thing to rot.
HardieTrim® boards replace wood trim with fiber cement that resists moisture, won’t attract woodpeckers or termites, and is noncombustible. PJ Fitzpatrick installs HardieTrim® on every James Hardie project we take on, and we also install it on homes with other siding where the existing wood trim has failed. Call 1-877-246-4354 today to talk through your trim options.

Where HardieTrim® Boards Go
- Outside Corners: Wraps the vertical edges where two walls meet for a clean, defined line.
- Window Surrounds: Frames each opening and gives windows visual weight against the siding.
- Door Surrounds: Defines entryways and takes the brunt of weather at the threshold.
- Fascia Boards: Runs along the roofline behind your gutters, where wood rots first.
- Rake Boards: Follows the sloped edges of gables to finish the roof profile.
- Frieze Boards: Bridges the top of the siding and the soffit for a deliberate transition.
- Battens: Applied vertically over panel siding to create board-and-batten walls.
- Columns and Posts: Wraps porch supports so they match the rest of the exterior.
Textures and Colors
HardieTrim® boards come in several textures, so the trim can either disappear into the siding or stand deliberately apart from it.
Smooth is the most widely used and the most versatile. Its flat, grain-free face reads crisp and architectural, and it’s the standard choice when you want trim that frames the siding without competing with it—especially in a bright white against a darker body color.
Rustic Grain carries a textured woodgrain face that pairs naturally with Select Cedarmill® siding, keeping a consistent grain across the whole exterior.
Roughsawn offers a coarser, more rugged surface for homes going after a rustic or lodge-inspired character.
We install HardieTrim® in Statement Collection® colors with ColorPlus® Technology—the same factory-applied, oven-baked finish used on the siding—so your trim and body colors are engineered to work together and age at the same rate. Trim is also available primed for paint. Texture availability varies by market, and we’ll show you what we can source at your estimate.

Why Trim Deserves More Attention Than It Usually Gets
Trim sits at every joint and transition on your house—which is exactly where water tries to get in. Corners, window heads, door thresholds, and the fascia behind your gutters take more moisture exposure than any flat wall does. That’s why wood trim tends to fail years before the siding around it, and why homeowners so often end up scraping and repainting trim on a house that otherwise looks fine.
Trim also sets proportion. Boards that are too narrow make windows look undersized; boards that are too thin against thick siding flatten the shadow lines you’re paying for. We’ll help you size the trim to your home’s scale and the siding profile you’ve chosen, whether that’s Hardie® Plank lap siding, vertical panel, or shake & shingle.
Built to the Same Standard as the Siding
HardieTrim® boards carry the same engineering as the rest of the line: noncombustible fiber cement, formulated for our region through James Hardie’s Engineered for Climate® approach, and backed by a 30-year non-prorated limited, transferable substrate warranty. Trim that lasts as long as the siding means one exterior with one maintenance schedule—not siding you ignore and trim you keep repainting.
